CM Punk is currently one of the biggest names in WWE and in pro wrestling in general. According to veteran journalist Bill Apter, a match between Punk and Jeff Hardy would be an astronomical hit if it happened in this era.
The Charismatic Enigma and the Second City Saint have an intense history dating back to the late 2000s. The two even had a ‘loser leaves the promotion’ match, which Jeff lost. Since then, the two have not faced each other in the ring. Interestingly, Jeff recently commented on a possible rematch between him and Punk with a similar stipulation.
Speaking about the topic on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Bill Apter stated:
“Regarding Jeff Hardy and CM Punk, billboard match to me definitely. I would love to see that. But he is not gonna retire CM Punk, if he is looking for retirement match against CM Punk. He is currently in TNA and they have a good working agreement with WWE at this point. So I would love to see Jeff Hardy against CM Punk. Like I said, to me that’s a fan dream match.” [4:15 onwards]
What exactly did Jeff Hardy say about a potential WWE run?
Jeff Hardy apparently wants to end his career on a high note, with a possible Hall of Fame induction.
Speaking on the HOG Live Event, the Charismatic Enigma talked about how he wanted to retire and possibly have a match with CM Punk. He had said:
“Ultimately, man, I’d like to do a really cool match in the WWE and do the Hall of Fame and all that stuff to really end it on the highest note possible. Because looking back at my career now, the history is just a glimpse, like a blink of an eye, when you achieve so much and then you’re here at this point, older in life. So it’d really be special to have a killer match, maybe make CM Punk retire, and then, go into the Hall of Fame,” said Jeff Hardy.
As of now, only time will tell if the two WWE legends will ever meet in the ring again.
