This past Friday, the spotlight was not only on the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. Although Rhodes kicked off the first SmackDown show of 2025, he was interrupted by Drew McIntyre.
The Scotsman caught The American Nightmare and the fans in attendance off-guard when he hugged the champion. The former World Heavyweight Champion warned Cody to watch his back after a brief back-and-forth, after which Kevin Owens seized the opportunity to knock down his bitter rival. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry explained why this potential new alliance is not going to work.
Speaking on Busted Open, Mark Henry admitted that he could not comprehend what was happening when Drew McIntyre appeared to be in cahoots with The Prizefighter. He called this potential partnership “toxic” and “dangerous,” because neither of them works in a tag team:
“Are these two working together?” Mark Henry wondered. “That is a toxic and dangerous alliance. Those two, not only will they damage a lot of people, and get a lot of sh** done, they will fight each other. There’s no way. They’re both two off-kilter, loose cannons to agree. That’s a whole lot of crazy.” [From 27:55 to 28:48]
Henry added that considering both of them want to be world champions, the minute either one of them wins it, they will start to bicker and batter one another. Kevin Owens is the number one contender to The American Nightmare’s Undisputed WWE Championship. The bout is scheduled for the Royal Rumble on February 1st.
Drew McIntyre will wrestle on the Netflix premiere of WWE RAW
On the red brand this week, the General Manager of Monday Night RAW, Adam Pearce, made a last-minute addition to the Netflix premiere episode of the show.
On January 6, Drew McIntyre will finally get his hands on Jey Uso. This statement works the other way around as well, as Main Event Jey was attacked backstage a few weeks ago by McIntyre, who was making his return after last being seen wrestling CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood.
The issues between Drew McIntyre and Jey Uso stem from Uso’s days in The Bloodline, most notably when the former Intercontinental Champion cost McIntyre a main event title match against Roman Reigns in his home country.
