“I miss you so much” – Rey Mysterio pens a heartbreaking message

WWE legend Rey Mysterio recently wrote a heartbreaking message on social media. The Hall of Famer celebrated the birthday of his uncle Rey Misterio Sr., who passed away on December 20, 2024. He would have turned 67 years old on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

In a post on Instagram, Mysterio wrote a heartfelt message and shared a bunch of photos featuring him and his uncle during their careers. Misterio Sr. was seemingly the most influential figure of the WWE star’s career, training him and giving him his legendary ring name.

The former WWE Champion sent his uncle a birthday message, raising a glass for him and other fallen legends such as Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr. He also mentioned his father, Roberto Gutierrez Sr.

“Happy birthday up to HEAVEN Mike. I know you are enjoying with your dad ✝️ my (papa Benny) with my dad✝️, with Eddie✝️ and Love Machine✝️ and in God’s hands🙏🏼 I send all the love and affection to the five of you and I miss you a lot! Salud!” Mysterio wrote.

Rey Mysterio’s father passed away nearly a month before Rey Misterio Sr.’s death. It has been a rough couple of months for the family, but they continue to perform in WWE.

Rey Mysterio recalls wrestling Shawn Michaels after Eddie Guerrero’s death

The wrestling world and WWE family lost Eddie Guerrero on November 13, 2005. Guerrero passed away at the age of 38, with the company paying tribute the following night on RAW.

One of the matches on the tribute show was Rey Mysterio vs. Shawn Michaels for the first time ever. Mysterio defeated The Heartbreak Kid in a highly entertaining bout, with the luchador reminiscing about it in a recent episode of WWE Vault.

“I think Eddie enjoyed that night, you know, from heaven. It was very special. (…) It worked out and I go back and watch this and I see that I’m off, you know? A slight bit on certain things. It’s hard to replace Eddie’s memory with what’s going on at that time,” Mysterio said. [H/T: WrestlingInc.]

Mysterio remains active at the age of 50 and is part of the Latino World Order. They are currently in a storyline with The New Day, with the Hall of Famer giving Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston a hard time for kicking Big E out of their group.
