Cody Rhodes’ last major appearance was at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2024, where he clinched a big win over Kevin Owens and retained his Undisputed WWE Championship. However, despite the big win, the night ended on a bad note for The American Nightmare as Owens put a vicious Package Piledriver on Rhodes, leaving him motionless. It appears the champion might soon get his revenge on KO.
Later, WWE provided a health update on Cody Rhodes and informed that following the brutal annihilation by KO, the champion has sustained some injuries. The American Nightmare recently made his surprise return at the SmackDown-based live event at Jacksonville.
The arch-rivals clashed in a steel cage match-up, where Rhodes managed to secure a close victory over The Prizefighter and stood tall with the Undisputed title and Winged Eagle title in his hands.
Following his monumental return, General Manager Nick Aldis could announce a blockbuster Champion vs. Champion match between Cody and self-crowned titleholder Kevin Owens for the season premiere of RAW on Netflix on January 6, 2025, on SmackDown. Adding this bout would solidify the card for the much-awaited show. However, this is speculative at this point.
Was Cody Rhodes genuinely injured?
Following Owens’ brutal attack at the SNME, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was taken out on a stretcher to the ambulance under medical surveillance. Therefore, fans have been concerned about whether The American Nightmare has injured himself.
It seems that being hurt was part of the storyline, as no report has any news regarding Rhodes sustaining a real-life injury. His recent return at live show under two after being taken out can be considered as another clue that the injury angle was just part of the saga. It remains to be seen what plans the Triple H-led creative team has in store for the Rhodes-Owens saga in the coming weeks.
