There is a lot of speculation over who John Cena’s final WrestleMania opponent could be. His father believes Cena will face a veteran three-time champion and admitted to the possibility of his son losing his final WrestleMania match.
Sportskeeda Wrestling’s veteran journalist Bill Apter spoke to John Cena Sr. not too long after the RAW on Netflix premiere. While they spoke about a variety of topics, one in particular was his son’s WrestleMania 41 opponent.
On one hand, Cena is heavily rumored to be facing Cody Rhodes. This scrambles things up as many expected Rhodes to face The Rock at WrestleMania. Some fans hope to see Cena face World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
That sentiment seems to be shared by John Cena Sr., who praised the 19-year veteran Gunther. The Ring General is a three-time Champion in WWE and Cena’s father explained why it’s such an enticing match-up for WrestleMania:
“I think you have two young men in there. John [Cena] is still young. Two different styles. Gunther, if you look at his style, is more Greco-Roman. He’s right in there, does those smart wrestling span moves. John is more of, get in, do his thing and get the win. I think it’d be very interesting. I think they would compliment each other. I think that would be one heck of a competition.” (From 05:57 to 06:24)
While putting his money on his son, John Cena Sr. fully admitted that his son could lose to Gunther and if he did, there would be nothing to be ashamed of:
“I think John Cena wins that match the same way he wins every match. There’s going to be an Attitude Adjustment, a ‘You can’t see me’, and a 1,2,3 count. I will say this – if he is going to fight Gunther for the [World] Heavyweight Championship, that will not be an easy match. And if he doesn’t come out victorious, I would think there’s nothing to be ashamed of but my money is on him there.” (From 06:30 to 06:55)

One veteran thinks John Cena won’t mind losing to Gunther at WrestleMania 41
It’s hard to decide who should win if John Cena vs Gunther happens at WrestleMania 41. Cena is undoubtedly the sentimental favorite, but the fact that it’s his final WrestleMania could mean that he does the honors and loses.
On Story Time With Dutch Mantell, the former WWE and wrestling veteran stated his belief that Cena wouldn’t mind losing to Gunther at WrestleMania 41:
“I think Gunther would be a good one. I think John [Cena] needs to do the honors. I don’t think he’ll have a problem doing that,” Dutch Mantell said.
Considering how much the sentiment has shifted in favor of Cena over the last decade, him dethroning Gunther in a hypothetical match at WrestleMania could be considered a best-case scenario.
The Cenation Leader doesn’t even need to have a long title run, and The Ring General will have completed eight months as World Heavyweight Champion. Time will tell how things play out.
