Teddy Long is not happy with a 11-time world champion’s comments about Vince McMahon. He had a scathing response to a fellow-WWE Hall of Famer for stating that McMahon will be going to hell.
On the latest episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, host Mac Davis brought up a resurfaced quote of Kurt Angle where he had said that “Vince McMahon is going to hell after he dies.” He described McMahon as a “special individual” but also called him a complicated person. Angle seemed entirely baffled at the “crazy s**t” that McMahon did while being the CEO of a company and said that he wasn’t supposed to do that kind of stuff. Angle even said that he didn’t want to specify what that crazy stuff was because it was private. This was in an interview with Inside The Ropes from 2022.
Although Kurt Angle had later clarified that it was a joke, Teddy Long was unaware of that. Regardless, Long, who has a lot of respect for Vince McMahon due to the way he was treated in WWE, lashed out at Kurt Angle for his comments, telling him not to reject the people who took care of him:
“I want to say this. Golly, I was right there with Kurt Angle and Vince [McMahon] went out of his way to get a lot out of Kurt Angle. He did a lot for him. You know what I mean? Please don’t reject the people who took care of you. Whatever Vince did, it was Vince’s business. It was private. For him to speak like that… If it’s true, and I don’t know if it’s true, if it’s just old stuff that’s resurfaced, but it goes to show you can’t trust anybody.” (1:46-2:23)

What exactly did Kurt Angle say in response to his comments about Vince McMahon?
As noted earlier, Kurt Angle responded to the resurfaced quote in December 2024. In a tweet clarifying his comments, the veteran said it was a joke taken out of context:
“To everyone seeing this, I meant for it to be a joke. I don’t know why wrestle ops or whoever came up with this quote made it look serious. It was a JOKE. I actually complimented Vince on his business mind and incredible work ethic but I guess they decided to leave that out. Of course they did.”
Ironically, the response to this comment on X was met with further backlash as Vince McMahon’s reputation was already tarnished in the eyes of WWE fans. It looks like it was a lose-lose situation for Angle because he got criticized for being ungrateful while also getting slammed for saying it was a joke.
