Cody Rhodes was blindsided by Kevin Owens on WWE SmackDown this week. The American Nightmare was distracted by Drew McIntyre when KO capitalized on the opportunity to target the champion.
While reviewing the segment for BroDown on Backstage Pass, former WWE head writer Vince Russo questioned WWE’s booking logic behind not having Cody Rhodes hunt down Kevin Owens on SmackDown, especially after what the challenger did to the champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
“You open up the show, you got the Cody Rhodes in ring, then here comes Drew and Cody is attacked from behind by Owens. Yeah, why isn’t Cody hunting down Owens the entire show?”
Russo continued that he would have rather seen Rhodes hunt down Owens throughout the show.
“I’d rather see Cody hunting down Owens. Cody finding Owens either outside, either up in a balcony somewhere in the building and and seeing a brawl and seeing Kevin Owens leave with heat rather than see a 20 minute wrestling match. Never, never would Austin have been jumped from behind and not not go hunting, ever.” [From 06:06 onwards]
Cody Rhodes will put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line in a Ladder Match against Kevin Owens at the 2025 Royal Rumble Premium Live Event.
Fans will have to wait to see which of these two superstars will walk out of the match as champion.
