A WWE legend is reportedly set to return on SmackDown this week. A report has now emerged revealing the reason for his absence.
Bruce Prichard first started working for World Wrestling Entertainment in 1987. Over the years, he has taken on many roles in the company, including being The Undertaker’s manager at one point. After several years of experience, Bruce has settled into a backstage role in the company. He is the current Executive Director of Creative Writing and Talent, which means he is somewhat responsible for shaping the storylines that fans see on TV.
Despite this significant backstage role, it was reported in November that Bruce Prichard would be taking a leave of absence from the company. PWInsider has reported that Bruce took some time off from the Stamford-based promotion due to health issues in his family. The report noted that he is expected to return this week on SmackDown.
Conrad Thompson previously commented on Bruce Prichard’s absence from WWE
When it was first reported that Bruce Prichard would be taking time away from WWE, many fans believed that The Undertaker’s former manager had left the company. However, these rumors were later debunked. Bruce also stepped away from his podcast for a while to deal with these issues.
Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard’s co-host, Conrad Thompson, confirmed he was still with World Wrestling Entertainment. He also said that Bruce won’t be quitting the podcast but has been dealing with some health issues in his family.
“I just want to address the elephant in the room. There’s been a lot of rumor and innuendo about Bruce Prichard. Just to clear it up, Bruce Prichard is still with WWE. Bruce Prichard is not quitting his podcast, but if you’re a longtime listener of this show, you know that there have been health events in the Prichard family and household, and right now, Bruce is going to take a little bit of a leave of absence from WWE, and he’s going to be away, taking care of what’s really important.” [H/T PWMania]
It’s good to hear that Bruce Prichard will resume his role as Executive Director in the company, and fans hope that all is well in his family.
