Welcome to the January 5 edition of WWE News and Rumor Roundup. In today’s piece, we will look at exciting stories revolving around Drew McIntyre and Becky Lynch, along with checking other major happenings in the world of the pro wrestling juggernaut.
So without any further delay, let’s begin:
#1. Triple H names WWE legend Michael Cole’s replacement
The latest edition of SmackDown saw the end of Michael Cole’s run on SmackDown as the WWE legend will be moving to RAW upon the brand’s debut on Netflix. Cole had moved to the blue brand earlier in the year in September when the show moved to the USA Network.
During a recent interview, Triple H revealed that Joe Tessitore will be replacing Cole and move to the SmackDown desk to join Corey Graves:
“Yes. Yeah. So and what’s cool about that comment to me is, I don’t think that people give commentary, especially play-by-play, but they just think about like, ‘Why is [he] telling you what’s happening?’ As if you’re watching like you’re on radio and they got, ‘I got to tell you what, like I’m seeing it.’ I see it. You don’t need to tell me that,” he said.
This would now mean Cole will get back with his friend Pat McAfee on RAW while Joe and Graves will be the commentary team on SmackDown.
#2. Becky Lynch return feud reportedly revealed
Becky Lynch has been away from WWE programming since her Steel Cage match against Liv Morgan earlier this year. However, The Man is rumored to return to action soon, presumably on January 6 as RAW makes its highly anticipated debut on the streaming giant Netflix.
While many expect Lynch to go after Liv Morgan, a recent report has noted that the former Women’s World Champion could also be involved in a program with Rhea Ripley.
Rhea Ripley is set to challenge Morgan for the Women’s World Championship on RAW’s Netflix debut episode. The Man could return after the match to set up her return feud.
#3. Drew McIntyre trolls Cody Rhodes
Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes came face-to-face on SmackDown this past Friday where The Scottish Warrior offered to help The American Nightmare. However, the two couldn’t come on the same page after which Kevin Owens blindsided the Undisputed WWE Champion.
McIntyre later took to X to troll Cody Rhodes as he mocked The American Nightmare for his neck tattoo.
Drew McIntyre has been targeting the OG Bloodline members over the past few weeks. The Scottish Warrior could also soon go after Cody Rhodes as the latter recently helped Roman Reigns in his feud against the New Bloodline. This was the primary reason Kevin Owens got incensed with the former Stardust and attacked him.
